The Camera you have with you

Here we are four weeks into the new year, I've been carrying my camera with me everyday to capture photos for my photo a day for a year project.  Aalthough some days it feels like a burden, most days it feels like opportunity. I've been keeping up with my photo a day effort, and have been very happy with every result that's come from using a proper camera (ie my D-SLR, not my point and shoot, or cell phone).  I guess the major point of the above statement, is my sentiments from the days without the proper camera.

There have been some times, and moments that I've only had my cellphone, or my point and shoot with me, mostly because I lacked the willingness to put out the effort to carry a big camera. A lot of really great images come from cellphones, as the cameras inside our mobiles get better and better more of these images are being shared.  However these don't compare to a nice glass lens and a big image sensor.  Perhaps, that most of these great photos come from opportunity, that if at that moment we had a D-SLR in our hand, the results would be even better, perhaps a stunning Portfolio shot.

Yet, it's still true that the best camera is the one that you have with you, and until they make an SLR that will fit in our pockets, there will be mediocre images from non-proper cameras everywhere - shared all over the internet, places like Instagram and other big social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. But i hope, there won't be too much more on my photo of the day project!

As with any work you do, or anything you post online for everyone to see, you want it to be something you're proud of.  To date, nothing stunning, or thought evoking has come out of my mobile for this project.  This has left me disappointed, and I plan to do better.  Am I surprised that there has been days that I have been a little less motivated? Absolutely not. We're all human, we all pledge to do our best and sometimes we let ourselves down. For some, admitting that is the hardest thing.

This is where I look to the next 11 months, and what motivates me to get there is pride. Like anyone, I want to make, and to display amazing pictures. Ones that remind me of good times and great memories. Ones to be happy about and proud of. But like anything in life, good results come from hard work. So here is to 11 months of greater focus.

Follow along in this journey, and let me know what you think. The above photo is from my 2014 Project 365, a photo a day project.
