In the sky in Langkawi
Malaysia has many beautiful islands to visit, yesterday I was in Kuala Lumper and ended my visit to the mainland with an evening flight over to the duty free island of Langkawi, off the west coast of peninsular Malaysia. Its a little bit north of the well known Penang and has been only developed for tourism in the last few years. This was chosen mostly due to its proximity to Thailand as I will soon be off to Koh Lipe about an hours speed boat ride away. My flight over from KL was with AirAsia, a no frills air carrier, the type where you pay for luggage, seat selection, meals and anything else they can easily monetize. With luggage and a seat secured beside my friend it cost me $32USD.
All the photos you see where taken from the top of the island on Machinchang Mountain. They have a Skycab cable car that allows you to see the beautiful panoramic views from the second highest peak on the island. There is a station about part of the way through where you could get off and hike about 30 minutes to the skybridge, however the skybridge was closed when we got here. The closed signs looked rather permanent, but mentioned only that the bridge was undergoing maintenance...a quick enquiry with locals revealed that it has been shut down for a few (8-10) months and there is no indication of a re-opening date.
While the day was not perfectly clear a great view of the nearby islands, pretty harbour and expansive jungle was enjoyed along with the cooler weather being 708 meters above sea level.
While at the top they do have a "sky post " where you can buy and send a post card to someone, there is also a little cafe to have a snack and a drink while you enjoy the view.
