A nice place for a hike in Thailand: Doi Mae Salong

Up in the north of Thailand, in the country side, beyond Chiang Mai, and even further than Chiang Rai, if you keep driving or biking you'll find the hills. In the hills are lovely Tea Leaf Plantations and a Chinese settlement mostly from Yunnan. A day trip here is possible, but an overnight stay would be best.

This is a great little village, and a good place to have a break from Thai food and try some Yunnan noodles, and a cup of oolong tea from the nearby hills.

Make sure to bring a decent pair of shoes - leave the sandles behind for a day and go for a walk through the tea plantations. This is a great Northern Thailand destination and it would be best to go there from December to February.

Getting there: The drive to Doi Mae Salong is about an hours north of Chiang Rai, there are public buses, but a motorcycle or scooter will get you there. I arrived by way of motorbike and highly recommend it.  The journey is full of beautiful scenery.  Nothing is more fun then windy roads, big hills, good weather and stunning views.
