Crazy Tuk Tuk Surprise

After a long day out and about touring Chiang Mai, Thailand we decided to take a Tuk Tuk back to the hotel for a shower. After negotiating a fair price we were en-route.  Tuk Tuk decorations are a standard affair in Thailand and this was was no different, this Tuk Tuk was adorned with little stuffed bears, pictures of the King and little bits of sugar cane tied about 4 inches or so from the drivers head.  Every driver likes their own bit of personalization and this driver was the same. Bug

We discovered that this Tuk Tuk was special, when we were half way there we noticed something crawl out of the sugar cane. A giant bug (I'm pretty sure that's not the scientific term) about 4 inches long and  1 1/4 inches wide comes out and crawls up the outside of the sugar cane.  What's even stranger is that it was a piece of string tied around it's waist, making sure it didn't wander too far from his little home.

When the driver realized we had saw his little friend he pointed out the other piece of sugar cane on the other side of his head and than to the front of the Tuk Tuk where his friends from the past had been pinned up after their untimely passing.

Of course this happened at night, and we immediately did a quick scan by our heads to see who else was on board with us.  Luckily enough the driver seemed to keep his friends near himself, however it was of little comfort at the time.
